Funded Courses

Courses are funded by the Skills Funding Agency and the European Social Fund. Funding is split into age groups of 16 – 18 years old, 19 – 23 years old and 24 and above.


Free CSCS course, test and card (Funded by Community Grants, HLC)

Free CSCS course, test and card to anyone in Hull and surrounding areas who has not previously done a Community Grants course, is not working, is 18+ and has either a passport or UK driving licence. Evidence of benefits is not required but if not available a statement must be provided to state how you are supporting yourself.
Courses in October:
Induction 17th 10am for approximately 2 hours. Course dates are 18th & 19th October 9am – 430pm.
Courses in November:
Induction 14th 10am for approximately 2 hours. Course dates are 15th & 16th October 9am – 430pm.
There are only 50 places on this funding. Once you have completed the classroom two day course, RDS will book your CSCS test to be taken at Bond Street test centre. Once the test has been passed you will be asked to come back to RDS to complete your card application.
If you do not have photographic ID there is a waiver form that cam be completed for the test part. RDS cannot complete this for you.

Free SIA (door supervisor, CCTV or Security Guarding) courses with SIA licence (funded by CLLD, Hull City Council)

Free to eligible individuals who live in either Bransholme, East Hull, North Hull or Orchard Park and Central Hull. This funding is postcode specific. Age bracket is 18 – 65 years old. Must have evidence of unemployment benefits or not being able to work. Only one SIA course and licence is fundable but RDS may be able to fund additional course with other funding streams.


Level 2 Diploma in Team Leading with Free SIA (door supervisor, CCTV or Security Guarding) courses with SIA licence (funded by Encompass or HLC dependent on postcode)

If you do not qualify for CLLD funding and you are 24 years or older we have this alternative for you. This is a three week course (one week distance learning, two weeks classroom). You will achieve two qualifications in three weeks.
Start date is 19th November and end date of 30th November (additional time will be allowed if required)


Want to get a job? Free for 18 – 24 year olds traineeships (funded by ESFA through HLC)

This course is for the unemployed or individuals who work less than 16 hours per week. 10 weeks classroom including English, Maths, Level 1 Personal Development, Level 2 Understanding Spectator Safety at Events. You then complete 100 hours work experience with an employer who has positions vacant. RDS can arrange the work placement or we can discuss with you a placement of your preference. All parts of the course must be completed within six months.
Once you have successfully completed your course, RDS may offer you additional free training to assist you maintain your employment e.g. a door supervisor or food safety course.

Want to get a job? Free for 18 – 65 year olds (funded by CLLD, Hull City Council)

RDS will help you to update your CV, job search, arrange interviews and get feedback from those interviews. We will work with you while you in a relaxed environment to find the job you want.


Want to improve your IT Skills?

RDS can offer you a course to improve your IT skills and gain you an additional qualification such as English, Maths or level 2 customer service. IT is not funded but we can combine this qualification with another one from our suite to enable you to access the BKSB IT package which is recognised and certificated.


Free for unemployed aged 24 years or more level 2 Award in Door Supervisor course (funded by ESFA through Encompass & HLC)

This course is for the unemployed people who are claiming some form of benefits(this includes income support for household earnings less than £15000 per year), not hold a full level three qualification, have a UK national insurance number and have lived in the UK for the last 3 years. 5 days classroom which consists of 32.5 hours classroom time, 9am until 5pm. You must have sufficient identification to take this course https://www.sia.homeoffice.gov.uk/Pages/licensing-document-groups.aspx. SIA licence is not included.
Course dates for 2018 are:
12th – 16th November
3rd – 7th December


Free for unemployed aged 24 years or more Level 2 Award in CCTV course (funded by ESFA through Encompass & HLC)

This course is for the unemployed people who are claiming some form of benefits (this includes income support for household earnings less than £15000 per year), not hold a full level three qualification, have a UK national insurance number and have lived in the UK for the last 3 years. 4 days classroom which consists of 28 hours classroom time, 9am until 5pm. SIA licence is not included but not required for directly employed positions.

3rd – 6th September
16th – 19th October
5th – 8th November


Free for unemployed aged 19 years or more Functional Skills English, Maths and / or IT course (funded by ESFA through HLC)

This course is for the employed or unemployed people who do not hold a full level one functional skill / GCSE equivalent qualification, have a UK national insurance number and have lived in the UK for the last 3 years. This course is delivered over two days per week and will improve your IT skills during the course. Some employed people do qualify for this funding but we would have to check eligibility on a individual basis.

Free for unemployed aged 19 years or more Level 2 Certificate in Nail Technology course (funded by ESFA through Encompass)

This course is for the unemployed people who are claiming some form of benefits (this includes income support for household earnings less than £15000 per year), not hold a full level three qualification, have a UK national insurance number and have lived in the UK for the last 3 years. 6 – 8 weeks (one day per week, Tuesday) classroom course, 0930am until 330pm. Please let the office know if you are interested in this course.

Free for unemployed aged 19 – 23 years Level 3 Diploma in Nail Technology Studies course (funded by ESFA through Encompass)

This course is for the unemployed people who are claiming some form of benefits (this includes income support for household earnings less than £15000 per year), not hold a full level three qualification, have a UK national insurance number and have lived in the UK for the last 3 years. 20 weeks (one day per week, Mondays) classroom course, 0930am until 330pm.
